Trading Psychology Journaling: Tag Mistakes, Find Your Expensive Patterns

Last updated August 23, 2026

Every trader has two or three expensive habits. They feel invisible because they're emotional, but they're perfectly visible in data — if you tag them. Psychology journaling is simply attaching the reason to each result and letting sample size do the confronting.

The Six Tags That Explain 90% of Losses

  1. FOMO entry — chased after the move started
  2. Revenge sizing — doubled risk after a loss
  3. Moved my stop — widened risk mid-trade
  4. Early exit — cut a winner against plan
  5. No setup — boredom trade
  6. News gamble — entered seconds before red folder

Tag honestly for thirty trades and sort by total R lost. Most traders find two tags produce over 70% of damage. That's not psychology anymore; that's arithmetic.

From Pattern to Rule

Each dominant tag becomes a mechanical rule: revenge tag → mandatory 30-minute cooldown timer before next order; moved-stop tag → hard alert at breakeven. Rules stick when your own equity curve proves why they exist.

Weekly Review Ritual

Filter mistakes-only view, read the notes aloud, pick ONE change for next week. Single-change reviews compound; ten-point manifestos get abandoned by Wednesday.

The Full System

Mistake tagging works best stacked on solid daily risk journaling, inside the workflow from how to start a trading journal. Log entries anywhere via the Telegram/Discord bots, run it all inside the best free trading journal of 2026, and check the economic calendar so "news gamble" never happens by surprise again.
